Traning programs in the college

Areas of Training
The major outcomes of the study (mentioned earlier) showed that major changes in regard to courses are essential. A newly proposed training program has, therefore, been presented with a view of curbing the identified problems, and accordingly addressing the needs of ETC and the nation in the areas of ICT and management. In line with the Corporation’s strategy, new courses are added in each training program. The training areas  are:

Telecom Engineering Training

Information Technology Training
Management Training

Training programs have been identified in all fields and at all levels. Certification programs are also considered in order to produce more focused and specialized area experts. The following section presents details about the training programs.  
1.  Telecom Engineering Training (TET)

This training program embraces the following specialized trainings

  • Data Communication   
  • Mobile Communications      
  • Telecom Power
  • Access network
  • Swiching
  • Transmmison

The program is designed in modularized form to prvide trainees with the necessary skill, knowledge and attitude to perform tasks such as    installation, operation, maintenance and planning of telecom networks according to the standard required.

The training program comprises of three levels of training: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level training programs. At Basic level, the objective is to enable the trainees to  familiarize with the telecom environment and thereby accomplish basic operational and maintenance activities under the supervision of senior technical personnel.  At intermediate level, the trainee will be geared towards to a particular technology. At this level, the trainee should be able to perform  operation  and  maintenance  by  his own and start to guide others. In the advanced level training, the participants are expected to plan and specify telecom network, give complete guidance of operational and maintenance activities.
The Basic level courses are mostly given as a package where as the Intermediate and Advanced level courses can be  conducted  individually. The minimum requirement to participate in this program is a diploma in electrical / electronic engineering or equivalent.

2.Information Technology Training (IT)

The development of a national information infrastructure is considered as one of the national strategic components to make change and improve input for socio-economic performance. Because ICT has been identified as a critical success   factor for all-round government development initiatives, we have recently been witnessing encouraging developments on the infrastructure front: SchoolNet, WoredaNet, Broadband Internet, Broad Band Multimedia, etc. Some of these networks are big and able to support bandwidth-hungry applications. But they are sitting idle being used fonly or running email  applications and web browsing. This is discouraging. That is, content and   applications are lagging behind. The challenge is therefore to change the pace and direction of content and  application development.

The training programs in Information technology have, therefore, been revised to make greater contribution. The aim is:

1.To curb the severe shortage ICT professionals in the Corporation in particular and in the country and the region in general.

2.To make an input for addressing the strategic issues underlined in the cooperation’s strategic plan with particular attention to the capacity building in the ICT sector   

3.To contribute to  the realization of the vision of the College.
With this sense of responsibility in mind, the following programs have been identified in Information Technology Training:

  • Networking and PC Support
  • Operating Systems
  • Security
  • Software Engineering
  • Web Application Development

The College has also launched CISCO academy to give CCNA and CCNP certificate programs.

3.Management Training (MT)
       Regular /Continuous MT:This is a general-purpose training program given on regular basis in line with employees’ career pursuits/aspirations and the Corporation’s succession scheme/plan. They include:

1.Basic Program/Management Fundamentals Training
2.Intermediate Program/Supervisory Management Training
Supervisory Skills Development
Supervisory Management Development

3.Advanced Program/ Middle Management Training
Management Skills Development
Operational Management Development

4.Senior Program/ Executive Management Training

 Special/Customized MT :This is operational /area specific training program that is given based on established needs and/or request by user departments.
